About the Designer, Leila Mourino
For 22 years, my husband and I have been raising four sons. Needless to say, I bring a unique perspective to doll making! As a published pattern designer and long-time seamstress, I value designs that are practical and durable. Most of all, I love things that make me smile.
A recent change in careers brought me to a crossroad where I was able to ask myself what I wanted to do next. When the little girl inside me spoke up and said, "make dolls!," I was surprised...and excited.
I first went looking for some inspiration in the toy aisles of popular stores and found nothing. Everything seemed to have the same highly commercialized look. I did more research online at home and still found little inspiration.
As I set out to design my "perfect" doll, I realized that I needed to look inward for my inspiration. I connected to my childhood experiences of playing with the cloth dolls my mom made me. I wanted that feeling back...whatever "that feeling" was! I wanted to merge the past with the present in a way that others could enjoy too.
After several tries at creating the pattern, I had a winner! I knew the design was finished when it even made my teenage boys smile. Each doll is handmade by me! I am proving that "made in America" is possible and people all over the country are responding. People are buying these dolls for gifts...and they are buying them for themselves!
Treehouse Kids Dolls touch a thread inside each of us that says, “life is fun, love is real.” Whether these dolls are played with for hours or simply admired while sitting on a favorite chair...they are loved.
